Being A Trustee (Volunteer Role)

Simply put, trustees are responsible for the general control and management of the administration of The Magpie Centre. The Board of Trustees meets monthly.
There are legal responsibilities which include:
· Making sure that the purpose for which the charity was established is being carried out for the public benefit
· Complying with the governing document and all relevant laws and regulations
· Acting in the charity’s best interests
· Managing the charity’s resources and financial reserves responsibly
· Acting with integrity, avoiding any conflicts of interest or misuse of funds.
However, the challenge and enjoyment of the role comes from working with other members of the board of trustees to not only support the staff and volunteers in the day to day running of the centre but, equally important, to ensure that there is an effective and efficient structure in place, including having appropriate policies and procedures
The current board can have up to 11 trustees, including the Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. The charity was established to provide equine associated activities designed specifically for the benefit of people with a range of emotional, physical and mental health challenges. Therefore, it is important that those with experience of working with horses and in the field of supporting those with physical and mental disabilities are well represented within the board. However, it is also important that the Board includes trustees with a wide range of skills and experience.
