As many of you know, we are currently undertaking the exciting project of resurfacing our indoor school here at The Magpie Centre. This is a really important improvement that will benefit our riders, carriage drivers, horses, and volunteers for years to come, helping us continue to deliver safe, high-quality sessions for everyone who visits the centre.
However, as with many projects, it also presented us with a challenge - what should we do with all of the existing surface sand once it was removed?
Rather than letting it go to waste, we were keen to find a sustainable solution. That’s when a wonderful opportunity arose, thanks to our local community.
Emma, Maisie and Poppy, who are local to the centre, were in need of new topping for their outdoor school at home. It quickly became clear that what was a challenge for us could be the perfect solution for them, giving our existing surface a brand-new purpose.
With the help of Ady from AB Equestrian Groundworks, the plan quickly came to life. The surface was carefully removed, transported, and relaid, ensuring it could continue to be used effectively and safely in its new home.
This has been a fantastic example of collaboration, sustainability, and community spirit in action. Not only have we been able to responsibly recycle a large amount of material, but we’ve also been able to support local riders at the same time.
At The Magpie Centre, we are always looking for ways to work more sustainably and make the most of the resources we have. This project is a great reminder that with a little teamwork and creative thinking, even a logistical challenge can turn into a positive outcome for everyone involved.
A huge thank you goes to Emma, Maisie and Poppy for stepping in with such a great solution, and to Ady from AB Equestrian Groundworks for making it all happen so smoothly.
We’re looking forward to sharing more updates on the progress of our indoor school very soon!
